TV SHOW EXPLORES HOW YOUNG PROFESSIONALS VIEW LIVING AND WORKING IN PENSACOLA
Last week's broadcast of "Pensacola: A Proud Past, A Better Tomorrow" recaps event that brought young people together to identify solutions for attracting and retaining young talent in our area
PENSACOLA, FLA. (May 27, 2010) - Jerry Maygarden, executive director of Better Pensacola Forum, and Rick Outzen, publisher of IN News, hosted "Pensacola: A Proud Past, A Better Tomorrow" last Friday on the BLAB television network. The show focused on the recent Rising Stars Forum in Pensacola and featured perspectives from a number of attendees.
Rising Stars are young working professionals recognized by IN News over the past five years as outstanding young leaders of our community. The mission of the Rising Stars Forum was to identify the top issues facing our young residents. Fifty young professionals spent a half day focusing on local issues including economic development and job creation, education, environment, arts, entertainment and affordable housing. Maygarden plans to compile the feedback and ideas from the Forum into a series of white papers. "Our plan is to put strategies identified by these young professionals into the hands of our local government," said Maygarden. The information also will be provided to candidates for local office.
Maygarden is optimistic that the Better Pensacola Forum is becoming a catalyst for change in our area. "It is clear that the residents of Pensacola want to see changes to the status quo," Maygarden said, "The Forum exists to bring those areas of concern to the surface so that leaders may identify sources of the problem and begin efforts to correct the real issues that are restricting the growth of our community."
