BLAB TV SHOW, BETTER PENSACOLA FORUM, WILL INTERVIEW ALL FIVE PENSACOLA MAYORAL CANDIDATES

WHO: Better Pensacola Forum WHAT: Better Pensacola Forum, a television show on Blab TV, will be hosting all five Pensacola Mayoral candidates for one-on-one interviews. The show is hosted by former Pensacola Mayor, Jerry Maygarden. WHERE: Airing on Blab TV, Channel 6 - Cox Cable. Check local listings. WHEN: Thursday, June 10th at 7:00 p.m. CST * * * * * A few months ago, Better Pensacola Forum commissioned an independent survey of Pensacola voters. Titled, the 2010 Mayoral Leadership Benchmark Survey, the survey's objective was to create an understanding of the voting public's awareness of and attitudes towards issues facing public policy makers.
With the new Strong Mayor Charter, it is more important now than ever before that the citizens of Pensacola have an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates for Mayor of Pensacola about their individual platforms and views.
The Better Pensacola Forum has selected four important questions from the survey that the voters would like to see answered. Each candidate will be given his/her opportunity to answer these questions during a one-on-one interview with the show's host and former Pensacola Mayor, Jerry Maygarden. The interviews will be in the same style as long-time CNN interview show, Larry King Live.
This survey and others were commissioned by the Better Pensacola Forum. The Forum's mission is to improve the quality of life for all Escambia County residents by promoting sustainable economic development and encourage strengthening essential public and private institutions that impact the quality of life.
The Forum seeks to accomplish this mission through dialogue, outreach and information sharing with the public, business, and public policy makers.
Current economic and social indices and trends point to a manifold set of structural and historical challenges to economic growth and a robust quality of life in Escambia County. These issues include economic development & job creation, public school performance, affordable housing, out-migration, governmental performance & structure, and the cultural & entertainment opportunities.
Essential to the Forum's mission, and the objective of these surveys, is an understanding of the voting public's awareness of and attitudes towards these issues and challenges.
Based on the survey results, Mr. Maygarden has determined four important questions the voters want to know. Each candidate will be asked the same.

Jerry Maygarden, a public affairs consultant specializing in private fund development for nonprofit organizations, is founder and principal of J.L. Maygarden Co. and senior policy advisor for the Capitol Hill Group in Tallahassee, Fla.
The former mayor of Pensacola served in the Florida House of Representatives as a state legislator and majority leader from 1994-2002 and was recently appointed to the board of directors for the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
Jerry's philanthropic activities include founding the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida and serving as chief development officer for Baptist Health Care Corp., Sacred Heart Health System and the University of West Florida, as well being a member of the administrative board for First United Methodist Church. Recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International Foundation, he also served as president of the Rotary Club of Pensacola.
